Explore the Koonung Creek Wetlands

Geography Condition of Koonung Creek Wetlands

The headwaters of the Koonung creek are located near the borders of Nunawading and Donvale, 21 kilometers east of Melbourne. The creek then flows in a westerly direction for around 11 kilometers before emptying into the Yarra River below Bulleen's Yarra Flats. Various gullies and creeks join it along its journey, including St. Clemens Gully, Bushy Creek, and Gawler/Lungren Gully.

Boronia Grove Wetlands

Boronia Grove Wetland is a Ramsar-listed wetland located in the City of Yarra, Victoria, Australia. The wetland is situated on the eastern side of Koonung Creek Reserve and is made up of several different freshwater habitats. It's an excellent spot for birdwatching, with over 100 different species of birds, and also surrounded by Indigenous vegetation that you probably can't find in other wetlands.

Doncaster Hill

Doncaster Hill is one of the highest land spaces located near the Koonung Creek Reserve. It has a height of 120 meters above sea level, giving you an astonishing view of Melbourne city. During the 1960s and '70s, this hill experienced extensive low-density urban development. It's a typical detached suburban dwelling that was built during these decades. However, the government is trying to push growth in this area with a 20-year project named Doncaster Hill Precinct strategy.
